option A — BSL-1.1 (Business Source License)

• Open-source for non-commercial use (research, internal eval, education).
• Commercial use requires a separate EpochCore SLA / commercial license.
• After 4 years (BSL "change date"), automatically converts to Apache 2.0.
• Used by: HashiCorp, MariaDB, Sentry, Couchbase.

Best when: you want defensible commercial monetization while still being publishable + auditable.

option B — MIT

• Permissive — anyone, anywhere, any purpose.
• No commercial restrictions; no copyleft.
• Used by: most JavaScript ecosystem, OpenAI gym, etc.

Best when: you want maximum ecosystem adoption and the standard moat is the chain identity, not the spec text.
